Bristol Cajun & Zydeco Festival 2005
by Nigel Worthington (United Kingdom)

Following the success of the first festival last year it was no surprise that everything ran equally smoothly in Year 2. This is thanks to the hard work of Alan Gardiner, Satu Phillips and many others including Carole Lateman who had selected and booked the up-tempo Cajun and Zydeco bands for the weekend. Friday night kicked off with The Hackney Ramblers , fronted by Tony Weatherall on the accordion, and well known as one of the top British Cajun bands. They soon got everyone into the festival mood.

The Band also had a great time at the Saulieu Festival in France.  It was the first time with new fiddle player, Yves Langlois. Yves will be joining the band replacing Jeff Mead who is unfortunately out of action. Not only is Yves a great fiddle player, he also doubles up on lap steel.

You can read a review of the festival here.  http://www.downtowncajunband.nl/sitewillem/salieu2005verslagronEA.htm

We must also mention The Hackney Ramblers recent appearance at Cecil Sharp House. This was a first for the Band, due to reasons beyond our control we had no drummer or bass player!  The dancers seemed to enjoy it !

and so did we!!
